The Surf Shoppe will be undertaking a subsidiary but very important function for MegaCorp – determining the cost-effectiveness and profitability (i.e., TCO and ROI) of a possible new operating mode (e.g., a private cloud, etc.). For this reason, it is imperative that the servers and other systems utilized by the Surf Shoppe be carefully monitored for performance and other issues. Sam Ayam, the MegaCorp CIO, who originally conceived the Surf Shoppe concept, wants to know if there is a “single best” design for a performance monitoring console.

Write a five to eight (5-8) page paper in which you cover the following considerations:

1. Sam wants you to design a performance monitoring console that can be viewed from a single screen, if at all possible. He is hoping that you can come up with something that is easily readable at a single glance but provides the critical performance indicators that an administrator would need to have at his or her “fingertips”. 5. Create a supporting graphic, depicting your single-screen console and its likely contents. Note: For this assignment, it might be easiest to use a screenshot of the actual console. Furthermore, the graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.

6. Sam thinks that you should use the MegaCorp SAN for data storage, considering your workload as Surf Shoppe SysAdmin, with only one assistant. He feels that maintaining your own Surf Shoppe NAS for local data storage would be more trouble than it‟s worth. Explain whether or not you agree with the provided scenario and explain your rationale.
